The Atlantic 85 were round in Gunwharf Quays all day fundraising for the RNLI, As they had departed Gunwharf Quays Solent Coastguard requested that they make their way to Hayling Bay where a yacht had reported finding a double ended paddle floating in the water. With this information being received it was feared that there was a person in the water. Portsmouth’s Atlantic 85 made best speed to the location and commenced an expanding square search in the area that the paddle’s were spotted. Once on scene Portsmouth Lifeboat requested that the Rescue Helicopter be scrambled to assist in the search. Rescue Helicopter 175, Bembridge Lifeboat and Portsmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were all tasked to assist. All units commenced various searches, After 1.5 hours Portsmouth Lifeboat was stood down to return to station while Coastguard units and Bembridge Lifeboat carried on searching.
